Update to eligibility for Sheep and Goats

23 September 2025

Following consultation with the Scottish Government and the Animal and Plant Health Agency, the organising team of the Festival have decided to follow the scientific advice and allow movement of animals from the north of England into Scotland for the Festival in October.

The entrants will be required to acknowledge that they have adhered to the conditions of eligibility.

Sheep

Classes for all breeds of sheep, horns, wool on the hoof, and young handlers. Featuring the RBST Scotland National Championship Qualifier, and the RBST Young Shepherd of the Year qualifier.
For 2025 we have specialist classes for Icelandic, Hebridean and Valais Blacknose breeds

Entrants from the BTV restricted zone MUST acknowledge their acceptance of the general licence from the Scottish Government, and also confirm that the animal will be returning to the same CPH after the event.

Goats

Classes for adults, goatlings and kids of all breeds of goat, and young handlers. Featuring the RBST Scotland National Championship Qualifier.

Pigs

Classes for boars, gilts, sows, veterans and pairs of all breeds of pig, and special classes for butchers pigs, and young handlers. Featuring the RBST Scotland National Championship Qualifier.

Sausage competition

The sausage competition will be part of the Rural Skills competition, please see section J of that schedule for details when it is published, and use the Rural Skills entry form:

Poultry & waterfowl

Due to the ongoing situation with Avian Influenza (Bird Flu), we are unable to hold a Poultry & Waterfowl Show in 2025. However, we have classes for eggs in the Rural Skills Competition, including egg content classes.

Alpacas, cattle and equine showcases

We work with the Scottish Alpaca Group to hold an alpaca showcase and with individual breeders and breed societies to do the same for cattle and equines, with a focus of British native breeds.
