Finlay will talk about reasons for starting ‘Seeds of Scotland’ and explain what it looks like to produce seeds in Scotland. Topics covered will include:
- Why is seed saving important.
- The seed industry in Scotland past and present.
- Sourcing Scottish and other heritage varieties.
- How you can incorporate seed saving into your smallholding.
Finlay Keiller, Seeds of Scotland
In 2023 Finlay and his partner Haley started ‘Seeds of Scotland’, a highland based seed company located just north of Inverness.
They are particularly interested in growing Scottish heritage varieties as well as varieties that will grow well in the Scottish climate.
Their farm consists of two parcels of land which have a total area of around 1 hectare and is currently undergoing organic conversion with the Soil Association. Seed processing and packing takes place in an old grain drying loft near the fields.
