Room 2, Foyer upper floor
The session will predominately focus on the story of Low Auldgirth, covering the background of the farm and how it led Ruth and her family to accidentally fall into farming. Covering the highs and the lows as they stumbled through the journey of learning what this lifestyle encompasses and how they turned the farm into a profitable business by discovering nature friendly farming.
The session will touch on breeds suitability, produce and sales, as well as lots of discussion how the farm integrates nature friendly systems and regenerative processes to get more from a small piece of land.
Expect humorous anecdotes, cute pictures, slight divergence into soil geekery and lots of food for thought.
About Low Auldgirth Steading
Ruth Ashton-Shaw, Low Auldgirth Steading
Ruth accidentally fell into farming ten years ago and has since been on a constant journey of discovering how intrinsically connected our farming systems are to food, health, nature and the environment. She’s a passionate advocate of small farms and their importance to our rural communities and believes that by working with nature we have the power to change the world for the better.
Ruth is at her happiest wearing woolly hats and wellies on her own organic farm in Dumfries and Galloway, where she can often be found marvelling at insects whilst trying to keep livestock out of mischief.
