Pig Show Results 2024
Jack Holyroyd, Addison had a tremendous outing to the Scottish Pig Show held at the Scottish Smallholder Festival on the 19th October. His Large Black Sow, Kingsdown Golden Harvest swept all before her, being crowned Rare and Traditional Breeds Champion, Overall Pig Show Champion and then picking up the coveted RBST Scotland National Championship.
A strong showing of modern pigs saw Morgan Halliday from the Dyfodol Herd take the Any other Breed Championship as well as the breed specific Duroc Championship with Duroc Jan gilt, Dyfodol Havnberg 7. Also taking Reserve champion overall.
It was also a good day for the Sauchenhall herd of show steward Alan Jamieson, as he picked up the Champion with Leescourt Trish 5, and reserve with Kinecroft Ru 4 in the Kunekune section.
Last years rare and traditional breeds champion winner Isabel Soar, Scholebrock was strongly placed as reserve in the rare and traditional section this year with her Berkshire Sow Spring Lady 10. Jason Knaggs from the Littleowls Herd took reserve in the AOB and Duroc championship with Littleowls Hulk 374.
The James Chapman Cup for Best butchers pig went to a Pietrain from the Dyfodol herd.
In the Handlers championships it was another win for the Dyfodol Herd with Miss Lilly Halliday winning the over 13 class then going on to win the overall young handler championship. Mr Jacob Wilson, Littleowls won the under 13 championship and Miss Jasmin Rouse, Stockbridge was the best Adult Handler on the day.
The show goes from strength to strength seeing 83 entries on the day. The day started with a minutes silence in tribute to long standing pig champion Mr Jeff Lloyd who was well known to many of the competitors. It also witnessed the first proposal of marriage in the ring when Morgan popped the question to Natasha after being crowned Duroc Champion!
Thanks are due to the tireless work of show steward Alan Jamieson, supported by the long suffering Kirsty Logue who kept everyone going through a long day. Special thanks are due to the judge, Mr Mark Horsley who did a fantastic job judging the many classes put in front of him with humour and skill.
