A Celebration of fleece and fibre with the East Central Scotland Guild of Weavers, Spinners and Dyers

11th October 2025

The East Central Scotland Guild of Weavers, Spinners and Dyers will be putting on quite a show at the Scottish Smallholder Festival on the 18th October. They will be the central attraction in the Fleece and Fibre Zone which will be upstairs in the Foyer of the Highland Hall.

There will be a fantastic display and information about different British yarns knitted for a “British Breeds” project and visitors will be able to see naturally dyed yarns.

The Guild will have a variety of wool processing equipment so visitors can see fleece from just washed right through the preparation process to being spun.

There will be a number of spinners spinning, and the guild are providing some spinning wheels for visitors to ‘have a go!’

Visitors will also be given the chance to try spinning on Drop Spindles.

Alongside the spinners, there will be weavers demonstrating and again, visitors will be able to ‘have a go’

And finally, one of the members of the guild is going to host a knitting and crochet circle, and we will provide all tools and yarn for those who have never tried it to drop in and have a try, or for more accomplished knitters and crocheters to drop in and have a blether over the needles.

The fleece and fibre zone will be open all day – drop by and give it a try.
