We’re delighted to welcome these charities, governmental and non-governmental organisations offering information and services to smallholders or farmers. The Information Zone is located in the Main Hall.

The Scottish Government – Agriculture and Rural Affairs Directorate

We promote sustainable economic growth in agriculture, the food industry, and in rural areas. We are responsible for:

• agricultural policy
• rural land management, with the aim of reducing greenhouse gas emissions
• supporting locally-led development in rural communities
• preventing, controlling and eradicating animal disease in Scotland
• enhancing animal welfare
• providing scientific services and advice on agricultural and environmental matters

Nature friendly farming network Nature Friendly Farming Network

The Nature Friendly Farming Network is a membership organisation led by farmers, working alongside other organisations and public supporters. Together, we are a strong voice for sustainable food and farming in the UK.

Our work is to support farmers at every stage of their journey towards nature-friendly farming. Through showcasing the experiences of farmers who are leading the way, we share knowledge that empowers those in transition to produce plentiful food. Nature-friendly farmers all over the UK are doing so in ways that mitigate climate change, reverse biodiversity decline and safeguard the future of UK agriculture.

Our mission is to take nature-friendly farming to a new level, making it mainstream.

Rare Breeds Survival Trust (RBST)

RBST is the leading charity in the UK working to secure the future of our native breeds of livestock. RBST Scotland works to promote “native breeds for modern needs” throughout Scotland.

The British Horse Society (Scotland)

The British Horse Society is the largest equestrian charity in the UK with over 9,500 members in Scotland. The BHS Show lorry will be promoting the work of the BHS and you can join the BHS on the day. You can also find out about volunteering for the BHS. Please come and speak to us about our work including our safety campaigns.

British Pig Association

The BPA supports all pedigree pig breeders and can provide information on many aspects of pig keeping either directly within the office or through the different breed representatives who are pig keepers and therefore in a good position to answer any questions. The BPA is a friendly organisation with a focus on conserving our native pig breeds.

The BPA are responsible for registering and keeping herdbooks for 14 breeds. This work is important to maintain records of these pigs, we also conduct a survey yearly to check the numbers of pigs as we must ensure all the breeds are maintained.

The Landworkers Alliance

A grassroots union of farmers, crofters, growers, foresters and other land-based workers with a mission to build a better food and farming system.

National Sheep Association

National Sheep Association (NSA) is an organisation that represents the views and interests of sheep producers throughout the UK.

Reforesting Scotland

Reforesting Scotland is a membership organisation for all those interested in restoring Scotland’s forest cover and culture. We believe that ecological, community and economic restoration are not in conflict but should go hand in hand. We are a broad network, from farmers to foragers and from artists to architects.

The Royal Highland Education Trust works with volunteers to provide free educational activities and experiential learning opportunities linked to Curriculum for Excellence.
