ENTRIES OPEN FOR THE SCOTTISH SMALLHOLDER FESTIVAL LIVESTOCK COMPETITIONS

Schedules have been launched today for the Sheep, Goat and Pig competitions for the Festival in October.

The livestock schedules and entry forms for the competitive classes are now live. This year will see three sheep breed societies working with organisers to promote single breed classes. The Icelandic Sheep, Hebridean Sheep and Valais Blacknose Sheep societies will all be representing the best of their breeds, alongside the other classes in what is sure to be a very competitive sheep section. The show will be split over two rings, and the team hope to see many breeds from across Scotland taking part.

The Scottish Smallholder Festival also features the only pig show in Scotland, and this year competitors will be put through their paces by one of the leading pig judges in the UK, Mr Nigel Overend from Deerpark in Northern Ireland. The pig show has been going from strength to strength and the appointment of such a leading judge is a reflection of the hard work put in by pig steward and leading Kune Kune breeder, Alan Jamieson of Sauchenhall Farm.

The Festival Goat show has always attracted a high quality entrance, and 2025 should be no exception. Last year’s overall champion was the Boer goat Romanna Adele from the Ritchie family, but is this year the one when we will see a dairy or native breed return to the top? The judge, Mr Brian Perry from Stockton on Tees will provide the answers.

Entrance fees are held at the same level as last year; £12 for the first entry and £6 for the second and subsequent. There are no fees for the special classes in each schedule.
